About the blog

This blog is an attempt to provide my kids with knowledge which can help them to gain true understanding about Islam. At the same time its an humble attempt to spread knowledge and awareness about the “Real Islam”, and to help clear certain misconceptions and bad image media has portrayed.. which has lead some Muslims confused and some Non-Muslims into believing that Islam is an extremist religion.

In fact Islam is a simple, rational, moderate, reasonable, practical and universal religion. Islam is a religion without any mythology. Its teachings are simple and intelligible. It is free from superstitions and irrational beliefs. There is no hierarchy of priests, no far-fetched abstractions, no complicated rites and rituals. The Oneness of God, the Prophethood of Muhammad (pbuh) and the concept of life-after-death, are the basic articles of its faith. All the teachings of Islam flow from those basic beliefs. They are simple and straightforward. Everybody may approach the Book of God directly, translating its dictates into practice. Islam awakens in Man the faculty of reason and exhorts him/her to use his/her intellect. It enjoins the person to see things in the light of reality.

The Quran advises him to seek knowledge and invoke God to expand his awareness:
Say ‘O, my Lord!  Advance me in knowledge.
(Quran 20: 114)

Quran is the word of God revealed in Arabic on Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), its the greatest source of knowledge for the whole mankind. It teaches that the purpose of this life is to obey the Creator and do good deeds. Thus, Islam teaches that this life is a test for eternal life hereafter, and that all human beings will be accountable before God on the day of judgement. The Islamic view of the nature of man is also realistic and well-balanced. Islam teaches that faith and action go hand-in-hand. God has given people free-will, and the measure of one’s faith is one’s deeds and actions.

Prophet Mohammad's last words of advice to Muslims... http://islam-awareness-blog.blogspot.co.uk/p/the-prophet-muhammads-last-sermon.html

Muslims go to Masjid/Mosque for prayers, especially for Jumma/Friday prayers as Islam encourages us to pray in jamat/congregation to instil the sense of equality and unity among the community. Muslims can pray anywhere as long as it is clean; it is a good idea to carry your own reusable foldable prayer mat.

Religion is the basic root of our life and philosophy. It is the religion that regulates us in life. This is the "standard" for us to "judge and determine" our day to day actions and activities. Religion is a "philosophy" as well as a "belief". And for "Islam" - in addition, it is also a "way of life" prescribed by the creator himself and demonstrated practically by his messenger Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

There are many excellent Islamic books written by great Imams and scholars of Islam. Here I would like to keep it simple and short. It is for Muslims and Non-Muslims alike. Any educated and open minded person will understand that every religion teaches to believe in one true God (by whatever name you call Him), do good deeds and refrain from bad deeds, but throughout the history human kind have manipulated religion and committed crimes for greed, pride, racism, revenge, discrimination and ignorance. Any pointers or references here are to help people see the whole picture and understand that there are some bad people in every religion, race and culture, but what we must remember is that there are many good people too.. We can’t just generalise the whole religion, race or culture on the basis of few evil doers. Anyone with an open mind interested to gain true knowledge about Islam is most welcome.

"It will be wrong to judge Islam in the light of the behaviour of some bad Muslims who are always shown on the media. It is like judging a car as a bad one if the driver of the car is drunk and he bangs it into the wall. Islam guides all human beings in the daily life - in it's spiritual, mental and physical dimensions. But we must find the sources of these instructions, the Qur'an and the example of the Prophet. Then we can see the ideal of Islam."
Cat Stevens (now Yousef Islam): Ex-British pop singer.

Peace to humanity.
